The Grade II listed Leicester Museum and Art Gallery is being renovated to create new cafe and gallery spaces.

The project is now on site as part of a phased programme of work to improve the visitor experience, open up new galleries across the ground floor of the building and refurbish other existing galleries.

  • The works will be transformational and change the way the museum and gallery are organised as well as extensive repairs to the external fabric of the building.

The cafe is to be moved into a late nineteenth century part of the building, reusing the original cast iron supported north light roof structure and opening onto the public thoroughfare of New Walk. Behind this will be a new contemporary art gallery which again reuses the original iron structure of a space that is currently concealed from view.
